Adjustments ~ 25

"Should one of us go check on her?" Carol asked as she looked at her watch.

"It's been ten minutes."

"Maybe." Donna said. "But I can't."

"Why?"

"I get sick if I'm around someone throwing up."

"Same here." Ginger and Bonnie said.

"Margaret?" Carol asked.

"She's your boss."

"Thanks a lot guys." Carol snapped and walked to the bathroom. "CJ?"

"Yeah." CJ moaned.

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah, I think I'm better." She walked out of the stall.

"What happened?"

"It's just this damn flu bug." CJ walked over to the mirror to fix her hair.

"What time is it?"

"It's almost two."

"I have to pick up Derek..."

"Toby's doing that. He said don't worry about it."

"Ok." CJ tryed to calm herself down. "I know what you're thinking."

"I wasn't." Carol defended as they walked out and back to the table.

"I'm not pregnant." She said as they sat down. All the women looked at her.

"I'm not!"

"Ok." They all looked down.

"Besides. The doctor told me years ago that I can't get pregnant. If at all, I have a 10% chance to get pregnant. There's no way."

"Yeah." The all got quiet and ate the rest of their meal.

They finished their meal and went back to the White House where CJ gave Toby back his credit card. Derek was with him.

"What happened?!" She looked at Derek's black eye.

"What does it look like happened?" He said rather flatly.

"Derek, what did I say about talking like that?" Toby asked.

"Sorry."

"Are you okay?" CJ asked as she examined his eye.

"I'm fine. Can we go home now?"

"Soon," she said. "Right now we still have to work. Oh, and is Jack still coming over?"

"No." He gave Toby a look.

"First of all, don't look at dad like that, second, why not?"

"He said that Jack shouldn't come over," Derek said, pointing at Toby.

"Why not?" CJ asked.

"I just thought that since this happened, and since I had to pick him up from school early, that he shouldn't come over today."

"You were picked up early?"

"He started the fight," Toby said.

"Is this true," CJ asked.

"Who cares if it is?" Derek retorted.

"I care, and stop talking back."

"Yes it's true," he said, nearly yelling. CJ looked at Toby who gave her a look of 'I don't know what to do' on his face.

"Come with me to my office," CJ said as she took Derek's hand.

"Why?"

"Because I said so," she said sternly.

"Don't hit me!" Derek screamed after CJ slammed her door.

"I'm not going to hit you, so sit down!" She yelled back.

"What?" He growled.

"What is wrong with you?" CJ sat across from him.

"Nothing?"

"Derek." CJ said in a warning voice.

"They wouldn't leave me alone. So I hit him."

"Derek, fighting is not the answer."

"I tried to leave, but then he hit me back."

"Derek..."

"Maybe this is my calling. Maybe I'm a trouble maker with no future in his life."

CJ just stared at him. "Where did you learn to talk like that?" She asked.

"The learning channel." He looked up.

"Ok, look." CJ shook her smile off. "You don't fight. Never. You come to me or your father." She looked at him. "Ok?"

"I'm sorry mom. I just got so mad." Derek looked up at her and saw her holding her stomach and looking uncomfortable. "What's the matter?"

"Nothing. Nothing's wrong." She tried to hide it.

"You got the flu." Derek nodded. "I saw it on, Trauma, Life in the ER."

"What's that?"

"A show on cable. It shows blood and guts and all those neat things."

"Don't say that again." CJ felt sick.

"I saw this on something else too."

"What." She grabbed the trashcan.

"It's called, The Baby Story. It's about..." Derek's eyes got big. "You're pregnant!"

"Shhhh!!!!" CJ grabbed him. "I'm not."

"You are though." He smiled. "I'm going to be a big brother."

"Shhhhh!!!!"

"Does dad know?"

"Dad doesn't know anything because nothing's wrong." CJ started to feel better. "See, I'm fine now." She smiled. "Now, back to what happened with you..."

"Please, I don't want to talk about it."

"Derek, do you know what caused him to hit you?"

"I may have said something."

"Derek..." She said in her warning voice again.

"I called him a big fat stupid lying son of a b*tch."

Her eyes went wide. "You did what?!"

He looked at her and bit his lip. "It just sort of came out."

"Derek, you do NOT swear, got it? Never! Do you understand me?"

"But he called me a little wimpy baby."

"Answer the question."

"Yes I understand."

"Thank you. Does your dad know about this?"

"He knows about the hitting."

"Come on." She grabbed his hand and they walked out of her office.

"Where are we going?"

"You're going to tell him the truth."
