The Addition ~ 24
"Yes mom," CJ said into the phone. "Yes, it's going to be a small...Mom, listen to me. It's just going to be a small wedding. We're not going to have...No mom. We're not having 300 guests..."
Toby looked over at CJ and couldn't help but to laugh a little. She looked so frazzled on the phone, trying to tell her mother not to plan the whole wedding.
He looked over at Maddie, who was playing with her doll quietly. He walked over to her and put her in his lap. "So, what are we doing here," he asked, tickling her a little.
"Tea pawty," she said, smiling up at him. "Want any?" She held up one of the tiny tea cups that was on the floor in front of her.
"Sure, I'd love some tea." He smiled and pretended to take a sip. "Wow, you make very good tea."
Her response was a giggle and blushing. "Help pouw mowe?" She held up the small tea pot and handed it to Toby to pour more into her cup.
"Sure. Here you go." He pretended to pour more tea into the cup.
"Okay, I'll see you then. Bye mom." CJ sighed and hung up the phone.
"Everything alright," Toby asked, looking in her direction.
"Yeah, just an overbearing mother, that's all." She walked over to Maddie and Toby. "What is going on over here?"
"Tea pawty," Maddie said. "Tea?" She handed a cup to CJ.
"Sure, I could use some tea." She smiled at Toby who 'poured' her some tea.
"You like?" Maddie asked CJ.
"Yes, very much so." She smiled at Maddie. "Guess who you are going to meet soon."
"I don't know," she said, putting her arms up and shrugging.
"Your grandma and grandpa." When CJ saw the confused look on CJ's face, she continued, "Mommy's mommy and daddy."
She smiled. "Yay!" CJ and Toby tried to hide their giggling. "They have tea too?"
"I'm sure they would love to have tea too," Toby said, tickling Maddie again. She started laughing, which caused CJ and Toby to laugh.
"It's contagious, isn't it," CJ said through her laughter.
"You can say that again," he said, still laughing as well.
Once they stopped laughing CJ asked, "Are you going to invite David to the wedding?"
"My brother?"
"No, King David from the Bible." She said sarcastically. "Yes your brother."
"I don't know yet." He said, not making eye contact with CJ.
"Why not? I'm sure he'd love to meet his niece. Plus he and Kara have Alison who is right around the same age." She said, nudging him.
"How about this...I'll think about it."
"Okay, just don't hurt yourself while thinking too hard."
He rolled his eyes and smiled softly. He then looked at the clock on the wall. "Hmm, it's 7:45," he said, looking at Maddie. "You know what that means, right?"
"Um...No." She said innocently.
"It's bedtime," he whispered.
"No bed," she said, crossing her arms and pouting.
"But you get your special story," CJ said.
Maddie smiled. "Okay!" She looked at Toby. "Cawwy?"
"Uh..."
"I believe she said 'carry,'" CJ said.
"Ah. Of course." He picked Maddie up and carried her to her room. "Okay, which pajamas are we going to wear tonight?" He asked her as he opened the drawer which contained her pajamas.
"These!" She said, pointing to a pair of pajamas that had a whole set of Disney characters on it.
"Then these it is," Toby said. "I'm going to go get your book while mommy changes you, okay?"
"Okay!" She said as CJ walked over to her.
"Alright, let's get you ready for bed, young lady," she said as she helped Maddie out of her clothes and into her pajamas.
After she was in her pajamas, Toby read her her favorite story. As always, Maddie fell asleep through the middle of it. Toby carefully placed Maddie on her bed and covered her up and kissed her goodnight. CJ then kissed her goodnight and the two walked out of the room.
"Okay," CJ said once they were in the living room. "Who gets to clean up?"
"You do," he said, running from the living room.
"Coward!" CJ said as she shook her head and laughed and cleaned up.
Toby walked back into the room. "Did you just call me a coward?"
"Yes."
"Then I'll have to punish you." He said with a smirk.
"What do you mean," she asked, standing up and looking at him.
"I mean this." He said as he grabbed her and tickled her. The two laughed and ended up falling onto the couch, still laughing. Oh how they loved each other.
