Thoughts and Words ~ 1

Sam just sat in his living room thinking about Ainsley. He could not get his mind off of her. No one had ever been as understanding as Ainsley. They had so much in common, yet were so different and at two opposing ends of the spectrum.

That surprised Sam. He had always thought that he could never talk about something so personal to someone he did not know very well. Yet when Ainsley had seen the hurt in his eyes, she had asked him--more like pressed him to tell her what was wrong. He was reluctant at first, but eventually told her about his father and the 28 year affair that had destroyed the Seaborn family.

She was so compassionate, sweet, not to mention the fact that she was one hell of a debater. He loved the way the two of them would debate over nearly everything that had to do with politics. They disagreed on almost everything. When they weren't talking about politics, though, they would go out, laugh, and have a good time with one another. The dinners out at almost all of Washington's hot spots and then some of the lesser known spots that Ainsley loved for the food. Their friendship was becoming something more than either one of them would have expected it to become.

Sam then closed his eyes and thought about last night. They had gone out to dinner at a romantic Italian restaurant. They had spent nearly the whole time just gazing into each other's eyes, not talking, but rather just sitting there, holding hands. Sam was unable to take his eyes off her. Her hair was down, allowing it to fall on her back. Her dress was a beautiful violet tone that fit her assemblence very well. They were the perfect couple from anyone else's point of view. A beautiful woman with a very handsome man who were both so in love with each other.

As they walked down the street, all he could think about was the tone of her voice. It was so soft, so soothing. It made him almost go weak at the knees. He was falling in love with Ainsley. He didn't even think about the fact that they were from different backgrounds and that their parties were complete opposites. He just thought of Ainsley as someone who he could share his own life with. He thought of her charisma, her way with words, but most of all, he thought of her kindness. She had a heart of gold. Underneath that incorrigible exterior of hers, lay a gentle, considerate woman, who Sam admired greatly. Ainsley was the only woman who could make him feel so in love and so connected to another person.

He then opened his eyes. Was this woman really 'the one?' Was she the person with whom he could spend the rest of his life with? 'Yes,' he thought. She was the one. Ainsley was his soul mate. He had finally found someone who cared not for what party he belonged to or the fact that he was a lawyer, but someone who cared for the real Sam Seaborn. The only question was, what was the next step? He pulled out the small velvet case that was in his pocket and opened it. He looked at it, and as he did, he said the words out loud to himself, "Ainsley Hayes, will you marry me?"

It would be a nice thought to propose to the woman of his dreams, but was he ready to make a permanent connection to someone else or would he get bored and turn out to be a carbon copy of his father. Sam shut the case and put it back in the drawer. He needed to do a whole lot more soul searching before he would be ready to change his life, her life, and their future.
