The Addition ~ 29

"CJ, almost ready?" Abbey asked as she walked into the room in which CJ and her bridesmaids and mother were in.

"Almost," CJ said, smiling. "How do I look to you, Dr. Bartlet?"

"Please, CJ. It's Abbey. And you look magnificent. Almost like Liz did on her wedding day." A few tears started to form in Abbey's eyes.

"Oh no, please don't say you're going to start crying too," CJ said as she grabbed a tissue.

Abbey took the tissue and blotted her eyes, so not to ruin her makeup. "CJ, one think you will learn through the course of motherhood is that it is a mother's job to cry at occasions such as these. When your little one gets married, you'll be doing the same thing."

CJ smiled. "Wow, I never thought about that before. I guess you're right."

"Mama sad?" Maddie asked as she looked up at CJ who now had tears in her eyes.

"No, mommy's not sad," she said as she picked the little girl up. "Mommy's very happy."

Maddie smiled. "Good. Mama said means someting bad," she said with a serious face.

Everyone in the room couldn't help but smile at Maddie's little explanation.

"What I do?" She asked, arms in the air.

"You were being cute," Lauren said as she kissed her granddaughter's head.

CJ smiled and then seemed to have a rather nervous look on her face.

"CJ? Everything all right?" Lauren asked.

She looked at her mom. "Will you take Maddie for a minute please? I...I need to..." She walked rather briskly to the bathroom.

"You don't suppose she's got a case of cold feet, do you?" Donna asked, concerned.

"I doubt it's that," Abbey said with a knowing look on her face. She looked at Lauren who nodded in agreement.

THE OTHER ROOM

"Toby, the tie is straight. If it gets any straighter, it's going to cut off your flow of oxygen," Jed said, getting annoyed.

"Sir, I want to look perfect for today."

Jacob nodded in agreement. "Yeah, perfect." He continued to copy what his uncle was doing.

"Isn't that just too cute?" Josh asked Sam who was watching as well.

"If it means we are going to get another Toby, then I'm not so sure. If it means he wants to look as nice as his uncle, then yeah, it's cute." He smiled as Toby showed Jacob how to properly put a suit jacket on.

"The two of you are both doing that the wrong way," Jed said.

"Sir, no disrespect or anything, but this is not one of your everyday suit jackets. "It's a tuxedo. I can't flip it over my head."

"Sure you can, like this." Jed did so.

Jacob watched in amazement. "Like this?" He did it, only part of the jacket was still over his face.

Jed couldn't help but to laugh a little, as did everyone else in the room. "Yeah, something like that," he said as he helped the little boy get the jacket off his face.

"Now I want to be like him!"

Toby looked at him. "What about being like me? What happened to that?"

"He's neater! He can flip a jacket over his head!"

Toby smiled and looked at David. "Does he do that a lot?"

"Yep. One day he'll want to be like me, then he'll want to be like the postman, then he'll want to be like--"

"Okay, I get it."

"Okay."

Jed looked at his watch. "Well, I think it's time we started to head outside, don't you think?"

"Yes sir," Josh said.

"Wonderful. You guys all go get ready to go out there. I need to talk to Toby for a moment.

SAME MOMENT IN CJ'S ROOM

"Why doesn't everyone get lined up and ready to go out," Abbey said. "I want to talk to CJ for a moment."

"Yes ma'am," Donna said.

Lauren picked Maddie up. "Mama!"

"It's all right," CJ said. "Mommy just has to talk to Aunt Abbey for a minute, okay?"

"Okay."

She turned to Abbey.

"CJ, I just wanted to tell you how proud I am today to be here watching you get married to a man who you have loved half your life." Abbey said as she sat CJ down.

"Toby, I am a very proud man today. I mean, it's not everyday I get to see one of my staff get married." Jed said as he and Toby sat down.

"I know you're nervous, but you have every right to be. This is your first time getting married."

"Let me just say that Abbey and I loved each other just as much on our wedding day as we do now, if not more. So the love will keep growing."

"You'll have your good days and your bad days, but you'll be able to work everything out in the end."

"Just remember, don't disagree with her or it's off with your head."

"If he disagrees with you about anything, feel free to yell your head off." She laughed. "Just kidding. But don't just let it go. You need to know that you're just as good as he is."

"Like I said before, you are one lucky man, Toby. Congratulations."

"Thank you sir," Toby said while shaking his hand.

"Ready to go out there?"

"I am." The two got up and went outside.

"One more thing, CJ. Congratulations with all my heart."

"Thank you, Abbey," CJ said with tears in her eyes.

"Are you ready to go get married?"

"I am." The two stood up and walked to the door.

"Oh CJ?"

"Yes ma'am?" She turned to face Abbey.

"I know about your little secret." Abbey winked at a stunned CJ who eventually had to be pulled by Abbey out of the room and to her place to wait with her father.
