The Addition ~ 28

"I still think it looks crooked," Toby said, trying to straighten out his bow tie.

"For the hundredth time, Toby it looks fine," Sam said.

"Someone's got cold feet," Josh said in a sing-song voice.

"One more word out of you and you will be the one with cold feet. I'll rip your shoes off and throw them out the window!"

"Whoa, calm down boys," James Cregg said, walking into the room. "Toby you look terrific, as well as you and you," he said pointing to Sam and Josh.

"Thank you," all three men said in unison.

"So who is your ring bearer?" James asked after a few minutes of silence.

"My nephew, Jacob. He should be here soon. He may already be here, in fact."

There was then a knock at the door. Toby walked over to it and answered it. "Mr. President, I wasn't expecting you to be here already."

"Abbey sort of pushed me out of bed," Jed said grumpily. "You look great, Toby. Congratulations." He shook his hand.

"Thank you sir." Toby said as he shook the President's hand as well.

"Let me just straighten your bow-tie." Jed said, walking over to Toby.

"See?! I told you!" Toby said in Sam and Josh's direction.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Josh said.

"Oh Toby, I have something for you," Jed said.

"Oh you didn't have to do that sir."

"Nonsense, I wanted to." He smiled and took out a box and handed it to Toby.

Toby opened the box. He looked up at Jed. "Your grandfather's cufflinks?"

"Yep."

"Sir, I...I don't know what to say."

"You can say that you'll wear them today when you marry my Press Secretary."

"Of course I will. It will be an honor." He smiled as Jed helped Toby to put them on.

There was another knock at the door. "I got it," Jed said. He walked to the door and saw what looked like the mirror image of Toby and a little boy. "Well hello there," Jed said to the shocked man.

"H...Hello Mr. President. I wasn't expecting you to be here."

"Well, I am." He smiled. "Come on in."

The man and the little boy walked into the room.

"David, you actually made it," Toby said walking over to him and shaking his hand.

"Of course. What, you thought I wouldn't be here for my older brother's marriage?"

Toby rolled his eyes. "That's not what I meant."

"I know. I was just teasing you, as usual."

Toby knelt down in front of the little boy. "How are you doing Jacob?"

"My tie is crooked and daddy won't fix it for me." The seven year old said.

"Oh great, just what we need, a second Toby Ziegler," Josh said, but was hushed by a look from Jed.

"Let me fix that for you, young man," Jed said, kneeling down and fixing Jacob's tie.

"Are you the person who runs the country," Jacob inquired.

"Yes, that would be me," Jed said. "Josiah Bartlet, very nice to meet you..." he let Jacob finish the sentence as he shook his hand.

"I'm Jacob Ziegler," he said as he shook the President's hand as well. "I'm going to be a writer who lives in space."

"Oh, is that so?"

"Yep. I want to be just like both my daddy and my uncle."

Toby smiled and looked at David who smiled back.

There was then another knock at the door. This time Toby answered it again.

"Leo Thomas McGarry, where have you been," Jed asked in a stern voice.

"Traffic," he said plainly.

"Good enough for me," Toby said. "Now can we please get this over with?"

"What, you're not looking forward to getting married," Jed asked.

"No, that's not what I meant, sir, I--"

"I know, don't worry, everything will be fine."

"Thank you sir, I'm sure it will." Toby smiled and looked at his friends and brother. He was truly blessed to know all of them. He wasn't letting it show, but on the inside, he was the happiest he had ever been...Or maybe that part was still to come in half an hour.
