"But I'm not tired," Derek moaned.
"Sleep," Toby ordered as he tucked him in.
"Are you staying here tonight?"
"Yes," Toby smiled and kissed Derek goodnight. "I'll see you in the morning."
"Good," Derek smiled and rolled over. "I love you."
"I love you too," Toby smiled as he watched Derek fall asleep. He quietly walked out and ran right into CJ. "Sorry."
"Did you mean it?" CJ asked. "Are you going to stay and let me win?"
"I win," Toby pointed out. "I don't want to sleep at Sam's anymore."
"Good," CJ nodded. They both stood there for a minute and looked around. "Do you have anything to say to me?"
"No," Toby shrugged.
"How about I'm sorry?"
"Why should I say I'm sorry?" Toby snapped. "I didn't do anything?"
"You acted like a kid and ran off," CJ snapped back. "And you didn't even give David a chance."
"Yes I did," Toby said quietly. "I called him earlier today. We talked for a while about everything and we agreed to let the past be the past and move on."
"Really?" CJ smiled. "Toby, that's great."
"Yeah well, I wanted my family back," Toby looked down.
CJ smiled softly. "Me too." She took his hand and squeezed it.
They looked at each other. "I'm sorry," they both said at the same time.
Toby laughed a little. "Looks like neither of us won."
"Yeah," she said quietly. "I love you."
"I love you too." He led her to the bedroom.
Derek, who was standing in his doorway, smiled. He knew his little plan would work. He quietly went back to his bed and went to sleep.
NEXT MORNING
"Derek, wake up," CJ said.
"I don't want to," he said quietly.
"Sorry, you have school."
"Yeah, yeah." He slowly got out of bed and got dressed and went downstairs.
"There you are," Toby said. "What took you so long?"
He shrugged. "I guess I'm just tired." He yawned again and put his hand on his throat. "I have a sore throat." He looked up at CJ and Toby.
"You're not getting out of going to school," CJ said.
"I'm not kidding though. It really hurts. And I'm hot."
CJ walked over to him and felt his forehead. "Hmm. I'm going to get the thermometer."
"I'll get it," Toby said, walking out of the room.
"You said your throat hurts too?" She asked Derek.
"Yeah. I can hardly swallow."
She felt his glands. "Oh my gosh. I don't think I've seen glands this swollen in a long time."
Toby then came back with the thermometer.
"Open," Toby ordered.
"Fine," Derek moaned and allowed Toby to put the thermometer in under his tongue.
"Should we take him to the emergency room?" CJ asked worried.
"I can take him to Doctor Goodman before I go to work," Toby nodded.
"I should go," CJ mentioned.
"The President needs you to wrap up India," Toby pointed out as the thermometer started beeping. "Okay. 101." He read.
"I'm taking him in," CJ said getting her coat.
"CJ, you need to wrap up India," Toby said again. "Sam's on the hill all morning, Josh is banned from the pressroom, and Leo had a meeting with Hoynes."
"What about Derek?" CJ asked.
"I'll take him. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. The flu is going around," Toby said, helping Derek with his coat.
"But..." CJ moaned.
"Go," Toby ordered.
"Yeah," CJ nodded and grabbed her coat. "Feel better sweetie," CJ kissed Derek on the forehead and left.
"CJ?" Leo said for the third time. "CJ!"
"Hmm?" She looked up from her notes.
"Did you get all that for the briefing on India?"
"Uh..."
"Thought so. Sam, brief her, then go to the hill."
Sam nodded, "Got it."
Leo looked around the room. "Okay, get out, do your jobs."
Everyone got up and walked out of Leo's office.
"CJ?" Sam said as they walked to her office.
"Yeah?"
"Everything okay?"
She paused. "Yeah, Derek's just feeling a little under the weather."
"Ah, no wonder why you were out in space back there."
She nodded, "Yeah. Toby's supposed to call and tell me how he's doing." They walked into her office and the phone rang. CJ nearly ran to her desk. "Hello?"
"Hey, it's me," Toby said.
"Hey, how is he doing?"
"Just a little case of Mono."
"Mono?!" CJ's eyes went wide.
"CJ, relax. The doctor said that he'll have a sore throat, slight fever, basic flu symptoms."
She took a deep breath. "Okay. Thanks. I'll see you later."
"Yeah, see you later. I love you."
"Love you too." She hung up the phone and looked at Sam. "He's going to be okay."
"Good." He smiled. "So, should we get to work?"
"Yeah." The two sat down and Sam told her what she needed to tell the press.
HOME
"I'm home!" CJ said. She walked into the living room and saw Derek laying on the couch, covered with a blanket and Toby in a chair with both twins laying on him, sleeping. She smiled at the sight. She gently picked up Adina and sat down in the chair next to Toby and knew that this was the perfect, wonderful life.
