A Wonderful Life ~ 25

"So, this is the White House?" Jack looked in awe as they walked in.

"Yep." Toby nodded. "Ginger!"

"Toby, it's Saturday." Ginger walked over moaning.

"You think I want to be here. I let you dress casual."

"Who cares Toby! I had things to do."

"Like what?" Toby smiled while walking into his office.

"I had to go shopping to get your niece a birthday present."

"Ginger! You haven't done that yet?" Toby yelled.

"Like I had time Tobus!" Ginger snapped and walked out.

"Word of advice kid, never get an assistant." Toby looked over at a laughing Jack. "What?"

"This is the best day. I'm having way too much fun." Jack smirked out.

"Toby, when are..." Jed walked in and Toby jumped up.

"Did I scare you?" Jed smiled.

"Yes sir. You do that very well." Toby glared.

"Well, who's this?" Jed looked over to a shaky Jack.

"Are you who I think you are?" Jack asked.

"I'm the President of the United States." Jed smiled and looked over at Toby rolling his eyes. "You and CJ sure do this quick Ziegler."

"Jack is Derek's friend Mr. President." Toby smirked.

"Yeah, my mom voted for you sir." Jack smiled.

"That's good to hear. Tell me, what is it you want to do when you grow up."

"I want to be the President." Jack smiled. "Derek said he would be my Communications Director."

Jed smiled. "Well, that's great. I'm sure you'll make a fine President someday."

"Thank you sir." Jack smiled.

"I'm here just to pick up a few papers," Toby said in answer to Jed's question.

"Aha, okay. I'll let you go then."

"Thank you, sir." Toby started to walk to his office.

"And it was very nice meeting you, Jack," Jed said as he shook Jack's hand.

"It was an honor to meet you too." Jack smiled and followed Toby into his office.

CJ and Toby's House.......

"I can't do it! I just don't get it." Derek said as he slammed the book shut.

"Derek, you haven't even tried the problems yet. You've been staring at the book for an hour now. Here, let's try this one," CJ said, pointing to a problem in the book.

"Fine." He looked at it. "I don't know how to do it."

"Why aren't you even trying, Derek?"

"Because I don't like Math. Can I go work on my English homework now?"

"No, you're going to learn how to solve these math problems. Come on, I'll help you, okay?"

"Fine." Derek pouted.

"You know, I hated Math too." CJ pointed out. "But after I sat down and learned how to do it, it was easy."

"Really?"

"Yep. Now, we'll try an easy one." CJ wrote down a division question and handed it to Derek.

"That's too hard mom."

"No, just empty your mind of everything but this problem." CJ said. "Think about it."

"I don't like division problems."

"Are you good at multiplication?"

"Yes." Derek nodded.

"Ok, look at the problem again."

"Fine."

"Now, think about the times tables."

"It's division mom." Derek said sarcastically.

"I know. Look, 9 divided into 27. Now, think what number times 9 equals 27."

"That's easy, it's 3."

"Derek." CJ looked over at him.

"What?"

"You just divided." CJ smiled.

"I did." Derek smiled big. "Yes!" Derek yelled.

"I told you it wasn't hard."

"Give me another one. This is fun!"

"Okay, how about this...how many times does 5 go into 50?"

He thought for a moment. "Oh, that's easy. It's 10!"

"Right! Now let's try dividing a little."

He groaned. "Hey, you were basically dividing just now. Look at this problem. 18 divided by 2. I know you know this one."

"Um...9?"

"Right!"

"Really?"

"Yep." She smiled. "Let's keep going."

"Okay."

Downstairs.......

"Come on, Adina. I know you're hungry," Josh said as he tried again to get Adina to eat her dinner. All she did was start to cry. "No, not again," Josh said as he picked her up.

"I've never had that much fun before," Jack said as he and Toby walked through the door.

"I'm glad you had fun," Toby said as he set the papers down on the table.

"Josh, what are you doing?"

"I'm trying to feed your daughter, what does it look like," he said sarcastically.

"Stop being so negative about it. All you do is take the spoon, put it in the baby food, get some on the spoon, and feed the food to her."

"I tried that."

"And?"

"She won't eat it!"

"It's easy," Toby said, starting to get annoyed. He took Adina and put her back in her hi-chair and took the spoon and fed her. "There."

"How did you do that?!"

"I'm a master at baby feeding." Toby smirked. "Is that good sweety?" Toby smiled at Adina.

"Can I try?" Jack smiled.

"Sure, you can feed Samuel, remember your in charge of him."

"Yep." Jack smiled and Toby gave him a spoon and some baby food. "Ok Samuel, open up." Jack smiled as Samuel ate out of the spoon.

"Wow." Josh looked down. "You did it too."

"You have to be gentle with them." Jack smiled.

"Here." He handed everything over to Josh. "Try it."

"Great." Josh grinned and looked down at Samuel. "Hey little baby, open up." Josh said in a baby voice and Samuel opened up and ate.

"Nice job." Jack patted Josh on the back.

"I did it." Josh smiled.

"This is so sad." CJ said from the back of the room.

"Hey honey." Toby got up and kissed her. "How's Derek?"

"He's doing division on his own now." She smiled.

"How did you manage that one?" Josh asked sarcastically.

"Shut up." CJ and Toby said together.

"I'm leaving. I don't get any respect here." Josh moaned and walked out.

CJ laughed a little and watched as Toby and Jack fed Adina and Samuel.

"I think he's full," Jack said after a few minutes.

"What makes you think that," CJ asked.

"He looks like he's going to explode."

CJ looked at him and nodded. She picked him up and burped him. "There, do you feel all better now?" Samuel smiled at CJ.

"I think that means yes," Toby said. "So how's Derek doing?"

"I think he's doing much better." She smiled.

"Can I please go up and see him?" Jack asked.

"I guess it couldn't hurt," Toby said. "Just make sure that he doesn't try to do anything weird."

"Got it," Jack said as he walked up the stairs to Derek's room.
