A Wonderful Life ~ 21

"We're home." Derek yelled as he walked in.

"Shhhhh!!!!!" CJ walked over. "They just got back to sleep."

"Oh, sorry."

"How did it go?" CJ asked as they walked into the kitchen.

"I was so cool. Everyone spoke in Hebrew and then I ate something, I don't remember what it's called, and then..."

"Slow down pal." CJ smiled. "So, is this going to be an every week thing?"

"I hope so."

"Me too." Toby smiled.

"What time is it?" Derek asked.

"Almost one."

"I forgot about Jack."

"I called his mom and said he could come over around two. I said something came up."

"Great, I'm going to get some games set up."

"But remember..."

"Be quiet. I know." Derek smiled and ran upstairs.

CJ smiled at Toby. "So he really likes Judaism, huh?"

"He seems to." Toby said as he sat down. "So how was your morning?"

"Oh, the usual. Change diapers, feed two hungry babies, change their clothes, change my clothes, put them back to sleep, the normal stuff."

"That's good." He smiled.

She hit him in the arm.

"Ouch. What was that for?"

"You could be a little more sympathetic, you know."

"Yeah, well I didn't feel like it." He moved his arm just in time for her to hit him on his leg. He rolled his eyes.

"Okay, I have set up some games that Jack and I can play." Derek smiled.

"Great. He should be here in about 15 minutes."

"I thought you said 2:00 though." Derek said.

"Well, I did, but I also said that we are quite busy today and the earlier the better. Remember? You have to study."

"I thought that was for tomorrow!"

"Well, after Jack goes home, I want you to start on your studying." CJ said.

"Fine." Derek stomped up the stairs, prompting the babies to start crying.

"Great." CJ rolled her eyes back and stood up.

"Sit down. I'll take care of them." Toby stood and kissed CJ on the forehead. "Just rest."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Besides, I don't get to spend a lot of time with them." Toby smiled and walked over to the crying babies.

CJ watched as he picked them up and cradled them back to sleep. He was so good with them. Next thing CJ knew, someone was knocking on the door. She told Toby to stay with the kids and she would get it.

"Hi Derek's mom." Jack smiled as CJ opened the door.

"Hi Jack. Call me CJ."

"Cool. Is Derek here?"

"Upstairs." CJ said before Jack ran up.

"Thanks for letting him come over." Angela said.

"Derek really seems to like him."

"Jack is really fond of Derek as well. My son normally stays to himself, but it looks like he found a friend."

"It's good, I think." CJ smiled. "Would you like some coffee. We stocked up on it after the babies were born."

"Sure." Angela smiled. "Jack said you had twins."

"Yes, it shocked me to death."

"You didn't know?"

"Well, I guess my boy was hiding behind his sister. They didn't see him."

"What a surprise. I couldn't even begin to think about having two kids at the same time. Too much pain for me."

"I don't recommend it." CJ laughed. As they walked into the kitchen, they heard Toby talking to the babies in a baby voice, causing the two women to laugh.

"Sounds like a good man you got there."

"One of the best." CJ smiled. "What about your husband?"

"Don't have one. He was the kind of man who fell head over heals for a twenty year old blonde when I was pregnant with Jack."

"I'm so sorry."

"So am I. Jack's never even met his father. Which I guess is a good thing. He wouldn't have been the best role model."

CJ nodded, "That's true. I am glad to see that he has made a friend though."

"Me too," Angela said. "Well, I had better get going. I have to pick up some groceries. Thanks again for having Jack over."

"It's no problem." CJ smiled and opened the door for Angela. "So we'll see you around 4:00?"

"That sounds good to me." Angela smiled and left. CJ closed the door and turned around, and jumped about a mile into the air.

"CJ, Adina needs you."

"Toby, don't you EVER do that to me again!" She said loudly.

"Sorry, but she does."

CJ rolled her eyes. "Okay, okay." She took Adina from Toby's arms.

"What's wrong sweetie?"

"Well, I have a backache."

"I wasn't talking to you, you schnook." CJ walked into the den and fed a very hungry Adina.

"This is awesome," Jack said as he and Derek finished playing a game.

"Yeah, I love that game."

"What's wrong? You look like you're dreading something."

"Remember Math and Science?"

"Yeah. You said you were failing them."

"Well, my parents found out."

"How did they find out?"

"Because that's what they do. Find out things."

"That sucks. Sorry man."

"Thanks. I guess my uncle is going to teach me Science, and mom and dad are both going to help me with math. Even though they're more confused on the subject then I am."

"Yeah, parents are pretty smart on some levels, but dumb on the others. But your parents seem so cool."

"They are."

"Don't worry about the studying thing. Just do it and they'll get off your back."

"Yeah, I guess it won't hurt anything."

"Sure."

"I went to Temple today."

"What's that?"

"It's where people go who are Jewish."

"I didn't know you were Jewish."

"Well, I will be. After I learn everything. It's so cool."

"I've always been interested in that too. But my mom says we don't have time for church. She's never home anymore. She's always out on dates."

"That sucks."

"Are your parents home a lot?"

"All the time. My dad works now, but gets home somewhat early. I think my mom starts back on Monday."

"Man, I wish I had parents like yours. Sometimes my mom makes me feel like I'm a burden or something. I hate it."

While downstairs......

"Toby, she has a dirty diaper, and while I feed Samuel, you need to change her."

"But I really don't want to." He whined.

"Stop being a baby. We already have two." She handed Adina to Toby.

"Fine," he said as he walked upstairs.

"Your daddy's funny," she said to Samuel, who smiled.

"Okay, she's changed," Toby grumbled as he walked into the den with a cloth in his hands, wiping off his shirt.

"What happened?" CJ asked, laughing.

"Guess."

"Oh my gosh! She didn't!"

"She did." He said flatly.

"Go change."

"Yes mommy." He walked back upstairs, leaving a laughing CJ downstairs. She continued to feed Samuel, while watching Adina at the same time. "What else is in store for us today?" She said to herself out loud.
