Adjustments ~ 6

Toby walked back and forth in front of the window. "Where are they?" Toby screamed. First Derek left, then CJ. Toby was angry. He wanted to know what was going on, and he wanted to know now. Just then, he heard honking. Toby ran to the door and threw it open.

"Dad!" Derek screamed as he jumped out of the car.

"Oh, thank God." Toby said to himself. Derek ran up to him, and Toby lifted him up and hugged him. "Don't you ever do that to me again." Toby told Derek.

"I won't. I promise." Derek smiled, and Toby looked over and saw CJ.

"How did you know where he was?" Toby said while walking closer to her.

"Another father told me." She smiled, thanking Jed in her mind. Toby smiled and kissed her. "I'm glad to see you too." CJ joked between kisses.

"Get a room." Derek looked disgusted and walked into the house.

"Shall I make dinner?" Toby asked.

"You can cook?" CJ joked as they walked into the house, hand in hand.

"Watching Julia Child all day when I was a child better have taught me something." He smiled.

"Well okay then," she said as she set her purse on the coffee table and hung up her coat.

He turned to her, "Thank you," he said as he kissed her on the lips again, only this time it was more passionate.

"You're welcome," she said when the kiss ended. "I love you so much. You know that, right?"

"Of course I do," he said as he stroked her hair.

"I love you too."

She smiled. "So, I'm famished. What exactly are we going to have for dinner?"

"Chicken," he said simply. "With a little bit of zip to it." He winked at her.

She laughed, "Okay, I've never heard of chicken with a bit of zip, but whatever."

Derek then came downstairs. "Um, I have a question," he said, looking at CJ and Toby.

"What's that," CJ asked.

"Am I going to be able to live with you guys forever?" He took CJ's hand and looked up at her.

"Well, a friend of ours, I don't know if you know him, his name is Leo. He is going to be in contact with a friend of his who works for DCFS, and they are going to see to it that we are going to be a family," she said as she kissed his forehead.

"Yeah, so you have nothing to worry about," Toby said, a large smile on his face. The first one for a very long time.

"Okay," Derek said, smiling. "Thank you. I love you, mom and dad." He hugged them both.

"We love you too." Toby said. "But if you run away again, I'm going to kill you." Toby smiled.

"Yeah, yeah." Derek laughed. "What's for dinner?"

"Zippy chicken." CJ joked.

"I don't know what that is, but I'll do whatever you want if I don't have to eat it." Derek looked at Toby.

"It's going to be great." Toby said.

"I vote for pizza." Derek said.

"No pizza." Toby said.

"I second that vote." CJ said.

"Oh, I see how it is. It's go against Toby day." Toby started saying as CJ grabbed Derek's hand and walked him over to the phone. "I don't care what you two do. One day, you both are going to have to eat my cooking." Toby said as he saw CJ pick up the phone.

"Hopefully that day will come later in life." CJ said. Then someone picked up the phone and she ordered their pizza.

"A lot later." Derek added quietly.

"What?" Toby asked him.

"Nothing." Derek said quickly.

"Trader." Toby said sarcastically.

Derek smiled to himself. He was finally going to have a real family.

CJ hung up the phone. "Okay, the pizza will be here in 20 minutes," CJ said.

"Okay, okay," Toby said. "Just this once you two get your way." He smiled and picked up his drink he had made for himself.

"So when are you two getting married," Derek asked, right out of the blue.

Toby dropped his drink on the floor, shattering the glass. All three of them jumped. "When are we getting married," Toby repeated. "Um..." He looked over at CJ.

"Next weekend," she said. Toby just looked at her, totally confused.
