Adjustments ~ 4

"Ok, I didn't want to tell you because I didn't know how you would take it." Tobytried to say in a assuring voice.

"Toby, I'm this close to making you wish you were never born." CJ walked closer to Toby.

"What was I going to say, oh, I was just driving drunk, doing cocaine and assulting a police officer. Yeah, that's going to go over real well with Judge Judy." Toby yelled back.

"You know, you could have told me."

"Not with Derek here I couldn't. That's why the President asked me to ask you to go to The White House so he could tell you." Toby said all in one breath.

"Toby..."

"I love you CJ, god help me I do. And it's making me so mad that our love is being tested because of some guy who thinks that he's got some kind of power of you. I want to be with you CJ, but if my past comes up to bite me in the ass, then I don't want you and Derek to have to see me go down."

"Toby..."

"And another thing..."

"Toby! Shut up." CJ screamed. "Look, I love you too. We need to trust each other with anything and everything. If not, we're lost."

"I know." Toby agreed.

"Good." CJ smiled. "Screw Danny, he'll be taken care of."

Back at the White House, the staff was trying to come up with ways to stop Danny from doing any more damage.

"How about we just throw him back in jail," Josh suggested.

"Because he technically hasn't committed a federal offense or felony," Leo explained.

"Why don't we just--" Sam started to say.

"Get back to work? Excellent idea, Sam." The President said as he walked in. Everyone stood.

"Sir, we need someone to do the briefing while CJ's not here," Leo said.

"And Sam needs some help in Communications."

"Okay. Let's get Larry and Ed for you, Sam. Now who should do the briefing," the President asked, looking around the room.

"I will," Josh offered.

"No!" Everyone else said at the same time.

"Josh, no offense, but I don't want to have a secret plan to win the election," Jed said.

"How about Sam," Leo said.

"Fine with me," Sam said as he started to get up.

"Okay, go talk to Carol about what you need to cover, and go do the briefing." Leo gave Sam some papers that he needed to review before he left the office to go talk to Carol.

"What's next," Jed asked the remaining two people.

"I honestly think that if we don't do something quick with the information Danny has on Toby, he'll use it soon." Josh let out. "We need a plan."

"I hate to admit it, but Josh is right. Danny will use this the minute he finds out that CJ and Toby are engaged."

"He doesn't know yet?" The President asked.

"No." Leo answered. "So we need to come up with something."

"I want to see Danny. I'll give him a decision to make. I'll offer him a job in California, or I'll fire him. Either way, I'll make sure he stays as far away of the White House as possible." Jed smiled.

"Yes sir." Leo smirked. "I'll get him in here."

"Thanks," and Josh."

"Yes sir."

"I'm leaving you in charge of making sure Toby doesn't go after him, which he's bound to do. I don't want Toby getting in anymore trouble."

"What about the documents?" Leo asked.

"I'll get them."

"What if he made copies?"

"Trust me, after out talk, he won't even think about using any copies. We'll fix this. We just told CJ we would. It will be fine."

"Yes sir." Leo and Josh both said.

"Find Danny, and keep your eye on Toby, Josh."

"Yes sir." Both men smiled and walked out.

"Charlie!" Jed called.

"Yes sir," Charlie said, walking into the office.

"Get Danny Concannon over here right now. I need to speak to him."

"Yes sir." Charlie walked to the door and out of the office and closed the door behind him. He then proceeded to call Danny.

"They said they would handle it, Toby," CJ said, running after him as he walked at a fast pace through the house.

"I don't care, CJ! I am going to kill that man. He is trying to break the two of us up, and he is not going to succeed!" Toby walked up the stairs.

CJ kept trailing him. "Toby, stop it now. You're going to do something that you are going to regret, and that is not only going to cost the two of us our jobs, but it's going to cost us Derek as well."

Toby stopped what he was doing and turned to CJ. "I wasn't talking about killing the guy, CJ."

"Oh? Then what were you planning on doing? Knocking him unconscious so that he never wakes up? Toby, please, reconsider what you are thinking of doing. I'm sure that the President has it under control."

"And how do we know that, CJ? Huh? How do we know?" He yelled. "I don't want that man anywhere near you or Derek!"

"Toby keep your voice down. He's trying to sleep. All you're going to do is scare him with talking like we aren't going to be able to be his parents."

Derek, who had been standing in the hall, slowly walked back to his room, tears in his eyes. He got out his suitcase and began to pack his clothes. He waited until he heard CJ and Toby go into their room. He walked slowly down the stairs.

"Thanks for loving me." Derek said quietly as he walked out of the house.

"Mr. President, Danny's here." Charlie said as he came in.

"Thanks, send him in. And get Leo."

"Yes sir."

Charlie left and Danny walked in.

"Mr. President, it's great to..."

"Sit!" Jed yelled. "Do not speak unless I ask you a question. Do you understand?"

"Yes sir."

Jed glared at Danny as he looked down upon him. "How dare you threaten my staff like that? What gives you the right to do this to my staff? What did any of them ever do to you except make fun of you a little bit here and there," Jed asked, in full rage.

"Sir, I--"

"Did I say you could speak?!" He yelled. "Now listen to me, Danny. I'm going to give you a choice here in order to keep your butt out of prison." Jed eyed him carefully. "You may either take a reporting job in California, or you may be banned from both the Washington Post and the White House. Which will it be?"
