Adjustments ~ 28

"I hate doctor offices." Derek whined.

"Why?" CJ asked while filling out the form.

"It gives me the creeps."

"Look, I promise to buy you an ice cream after we leave here."

"All right." Derek smiled.

"Crap." CJ said to herself.

"What?"

"I forgot about the party."

"What party?"

"Remember, the party at the White House. I had to get you a suit."

"I have one."

"You need one with a tie."

"I hate dressing up."

"We'll swing by the mall on the way home."

"Mrs. Ziegler, are you ready?" The nurse came up to her.

"Yeah. Can my son come with me?"

"Well, the doctor is all set up to do the test. I think he would feel more comfortable out here. I'll keep an eye on him."

"Thank you." CJ smiled and turned to look at Derek.

"I'll be out soon."

"Ok, good luck." He smiled.

"Be good." She said while walking back.

Half an hour later...

She sat there in shock. Did she just hear what she thought she heard? "Oh boy what am I going to tell him," she asked herself.

"Okay Mrs. Ziegler, you may get dressed now," the nurse said.

"Thank you." CJ took the gown off and put her regular clothes back on and slowly walked to the waiting room where she saw one of the nurses by Derek. He had his arms crossed and looked as if he was pouting. "What now," she muttered to herself. "And what may I ask is going on here," CJ asked as she approached Derek and the nurse.

"Your son made a mess, Mrs. Ziegler. Look around the room!"

CJ did so and then looked at Derek. "Can't you behave just for half an hour," she asked as she apologized to the nurse and grabbed his hand.

"I was bored."

"That doesn't give you any right to go mess up other people's things. Now go say you're sorry."

"Sorry," he said to the nurse who nodded and went back to what she was doing.

"Come on, we have to go to the mall." They walked out to the car.

"Are you pregnant," he asked as CJ unlocked the door and helped him with his seatbelt.

She didn't say anything.

"You are! I knew it!"

"Shh! Do you want the whole world to know?" She asked as she closed the door and got into the driver's side of the car."Um, yes."

She glanced back at him. "I will tell him."

"Uh huh," he said sarcastically, which earned him a glare from CJ. "Sorry."

She shook her head and drove to the mall.

Sam's car...

"I don't get it," Toby said as Sam stopped at a red light.

"Don't get what?"

"The fact that CJ didn't tell me."

"Maybe she was afraid to? Maybe she just didn't know how to," he said as he started driving again.

"Yeah, maybe. But why would she be afraid to tell me?"

"Toby." Sam gave him a look.

"What? I would have been nice about it." Sam looked at him again. "Okay, maybe I would have been a little shocked."

"Yeah, maybe," he said as he pulled up to Toby's house. "Where's your car? I thought CJ was home."

"I don't know. Thanks for the ride." Toby got out of the car.

"No problem. Toby."

"Yeah?"

"If you need to talk, I'm here."

He smiled a little, "Thanks." He closed the car door and watched as Sam drove off. He walked into the empty house, wondering where CJ and Derek were.

The Mall...

"I look like an idiot." Derek pouted as he came out of the dressing room.

"You look great."

"No." He looked at her. "I look like an idiot."

"You don't. We'll take it." She said to the woman.

"Now go take it off so we can go. Toby's going to be home soon."

"Guess what?" Derek asked the woman working there.

"What?"

"My mom's with child." He smiled.

"Derek!" CJ stormed after him, but he slid back in the dressing room quickly.

"Congratulations." The woman smiled.

"Thank you." CJ said nervously then walked over to wait for Derek.

"I'm done." Derek came out, receiving a smack on the head from CJ. "Ouch!"

"What did I say?"

"I was happy about it." He smiled while rubbing his head.

"You are?"

"Yeah, first I get a mom and dad. Now I'm getting a brother or sister. I'm excited. Now all you have to do is find enough guts to tell dad." Derek smiled, but ran as CJ's hand came up again. "I'm kidding."

"Give me the suit." CJ ranked it out of his hand. The woman gave her a confused look.

"Mood swings." Derek offered.

"Derek!"

"I'll shut up."

They walked out to the car. "When are you going to tell him," Derek asked again.

"When the time is right," she said.

"When will that be," he asked as they got into the car.

"Will you please, just for now, stop asking me about this?" She asked as she drove out of the parking lot.

"Okay."

"Thank you."

The rest of the ride home was relatively quiet. When they got home, they got out of the car, and walked into the house, only to find Toby who looked like he was going to have a heart attack.

"Where on earth have you two been?!" He yelled.

"At the do--" CJ covered Derekšs mouth.

"At the mall, finding a suit and tie for Derek for tonight."

"Oh, alright. Derek, why donšt you put this upstairs. Your mom and I need to talk."

"Why canšt I stay," he whined.

"Because you canšt." CJ looked at him.

"Fine." He marched up to his room.

CJ and Toby walked over to the couch and sat down.

"There is something I need to tell you," she said.

Toby prepared himself for what she was about to say.
