"Yeah." Leo answered.
"Leo, it's CJ."
"Hey, did you get your lover boy out?" Leo smirked.
"We have bigger fish to fry." CJ said angry.
"What happened?" Leo knew some knew something was up.
"That cop, the one I told you about."
"Yeah."
"He staged a fight between him and Toby."
"How do you stage a fight CJ?" Leo's voice raised.
"He hit himself and then blamed it on Toby. Then he started beating him.
Toby looks like hell."
"Look, stay there. I'm going to make a call and get someone down there right
away to help."
"Who?" CJ asked.
"A good lawyer."
"Ainsley's here."
"She's a good kid, but this is going to need someone who has worked these
cases before. Keep Ainsley there just in case something happens. I'll make
the call."
"Thanks Leo."
"Get him some medical attention CJ." Leo ordered.
"Yes sir."
"Don't worry." Leo said as he hung up."Margaret!"
"Yeah." She walked in.
"Get Josh and Sam down the the police station now."
"Yeah." She left and picked up the phone to call Jordan. Then he thought of something even greater.
He dialed a number and waited for an answer. "Yes, this is Leo McGarry of the White House. I need to speak to Judge Mendoza."
"Just a moment please," the voice on the other end said.
"This is Roberto Mendoza, how may I help you, Mr. McGarry?"
"Well, we have a bit of a problem. See, Toby was pulled over for speeding this morning. He got a warning, but then when he was about to drive away, he accidentally hit the cop car behind him. He was arrested by a cop who knows him from his past, and now the cop wants pay back. He beat Toby and beat himself to make it look like Toby hit him. Think you can help?"
The other end was silent for a minute. "Yeah, I'll do what I can," Judge Mendoza said.
"Thanks so much."
"No problem Leo." He hung up the phone and left his office and went to the police station.
"CJ!" Sam said as he and Josh came in.
"Hi, what are you two doing here?" She said, surprised.
"We're here to help in any way we can," Sam said.
"Yeah, I mean, we know Toby didn't beat the cop up," Josh said.
"I'm glad you guys have faith in him." She smiled.
Just then, two guards walked towards them.
"Oh no, what now," Ainsley said under her breath.
"Hello CJ, Sam, Josh, Toby." Judge Mendoza said.
"Hello sir," CJ said. "What are you doing here?"
"Leo called me and told me what happened, and I am here to see that justice is done."
"Thank you," Toby said quietly."
"No problem. So where is this cop?"
"I think he's over in the office down there," CJ said.
"Okay, I'll be back in a minute." He walked off in the direction CJ told him.
Roberto walked in without knocking.
"Excuse me, but around here we knock." The officer stood.
"Are you the officer who arrested Toby Ziegler?"
"Who are you? Another Lawyer." The officer smirked, but was hushed by Roberto grabbing his shoulders and making him sit back down. "Excuse me, but what are..."
"My name is Roberto Mendoza."
"Is that supposed to mean something to me Rob."
"It's Judge Mendoza to you."
"Of the Supreme Court?" The officer looked up at him.
"Yes." He snapped. "Now I'm here to get some answers."
"Toby Ziegler hit me..."
"No he didn't."
"What's your proof?"
"Because Toby Ziegler is my friend and I know he would never risk everything on a sleaze like you."
"Excuse me..."
"I was falsely arrested before I became Supreme Court Justice. Toby was the one who got me out and talked me into forgetting that it ever happened. He used his power then to get me out. And I'm going to use my power now to get him out." Roberto bent down and grabbed the officers arm. "Let him go and drop all charges or I will make your life a living hell."
"Fine, just let go of me." The officer whined.
"I also want the report handed to Mr. Ziegler and not given to the press. If the press finds out about this, I'll take care of you personally. Count on that."
"Fine." The officer stood.
"Now, I want you to walk down the hall and apologize to Mr. Ziegler."
"But..."
"Now!" Roberto pushed him out the door. They walked down the hall to the room everyone was in. When they got there, everyone looked over at the officer and glared. "Do it." Roberto warned.
"Mr. Ziegler, I wanted to apologize to you for my behavior." He mumbled. "The past is the past."
"Thank you." Toby said sarcastically.
"I wanted you to know that all charges are being dropped and you can head home."
"It's about time!" CJ snapped. "But first, we're going to the hospital." She looked at Toby.
"What about Derek?" Toby asked while looking at the clock.
"Oh crap!" CJ saw it was four. "Derek gets off school at three."
"I had Donna get him. He's home." Josh smiled.
"Thank you Josh." Toby smiled. They all looked over at the officer once more.
"I think you can leave now." CJ growled.
"Yeah." The officer quickly left. Roberto walked over and sat next to Toby.
"Mr. Justice, I don't know how to thank you," Toby said as he shook the man's hand.
"You already did Toby."
"What are you talking about? When?"
"When you bailed me out in Connecticut. Remember?"
"Oh, yes, when Sam got us lost."
"Hey, I--" Sam started to say.
"Not now Sam," Toby said. He turned back to Judge Mendoza. "I just...thank you very much, Judge. You don't know how much this means to me."
"I have an idea," he said smiling. "Well, I must be going," he said as he stood up. Toby stood as well...or as best he could.
"Thank you sir," CJ said as she shook his hand."
"It was my pleasure, CJ. It was nice seeing you all again." He smiled and walked away with the two guards.
"Well, that was interesting," Toby said.
"Yeah, looks like Leo pulled a few strings," Josh said.
"Yeah," CJ said. "Anyway, we need to get you to the hospital."
"But--"
"No buts, Toby. You're going."
"Okay, he said.
"We're going to go back to the White House," Sam said as he got Josh and Ainsley.
"Okay, thanks for all your help guys." CJ said.
"No problem, CJ."
After they left, CJ looked at Toby. "Let's go."
"Okay, I'm coming."
