Alternative Thanksgiving

The knocking wouldn't stop. He started to bang his head on his desk. "Sam! I told you I'm busy right now!"

"Um, I'm not Sam," Donna said from the other side of the door.

"Oh... Sorry. Thought you were. What do you need?" He asked in a monotone voice.

"Well remember how we were all supposed to go to Camp David for Thanksgiving?"

"Yes..."

"Well, I was just wondering. Can you give me a ride?"

"Donna I'm going to tell you what I already told Ginger."

She looked at him. "And that is?"

"No. I am not driving there. I never trust the roads on Thanksgiving. Call me superstitious, but it's just the way I am."

She gave him a rather strange look. "Yeah. Okay." She walked out of the office and closed the door.

"No, huh?" Ginger said.

"That's right. He doesn't trust the roads on Thanksgiving. Pretty strange if you ask me."

Ginger sighed. "Well this is just great. We're never going to get there."

As if on cue, Sam walked into the Communications bullpen. "Morning, ladies." He walked to his office.

Donna and Ginger looked at each other and followed Sam to his office. "Hey Sam?"

"Yeah?"

"How are you getting to Camp David for Thanksgiving this year," Donna asked.

"I'm driving, why?"

"Well it's just that we don't have any way of getting there. Toby doesn't drive on Thanksgiving, Josh is going to be leaving later since he has to finish something and he's going with Amy anyway, and CJ..."

He looked up at the two of them. "CJ what?"

"Needs a ride as well," CJ finished.

"Wait, let me get this straight. You all have cars, right?" The three nodded. "And you all know how to get there, right?" They nodded again. "Then why do you need rides?" He was quite confused.

"My car is in the shop," Donna said. "So I can't drive there."

"Mine would make it as far as the end of the city and die," Ginger said.

Sam looked at CJ who still hadn't given her reason.

"Well....I...."

"CJ!" Sam said, rolling his eyes. "Don't tell me you got your license taken away again."

"Okay, I won't."

"CJ," he groaned.

"Fine! I got a ticket for parking in a no parking zone. But in my defense, I was parked there for only five minutes."

The three looked at her.

"Okay, three hours." She looked down. "Sam, can't you just give us a ride? Please," CJ asked.

"Well I suppose it wouldn't kill me to give you a ride..."

"Thank you!" The three said collectively.

He nodded. "Meet me here at 7:30 tomorrow. I like to get an early start."

"Why, are you planning on getting lost?" Ginger asked with a giggle.

"Out!"

"Man, he's starting to sound like Toby," Donna said as they left the office.

**7:30am, next day**

"All right, are we ready to go," Sam asked after he saw CJ get out of the cab.

"Yep," they said. "Okay, let's go."

**Camp David, 12:25pm**

"So what time did they say they were going to be here," Jed asked Josh.

"I think he said around 11:00 or something," Josh said from the sofa, Amy next to him.

"Ah. Well hopefully they'll be in time for the movie," Jed said with a goofy grin on his face.

There was a collective groan from everyone, except for Abbey, Elizabeth, Ellie, and Zoey who had joined them.

"Excuse me, but this is a tradition. You all know that."

"At least he knows how to cook a turkey now," Charlie whispered to Zoey, causing her to giggle.

"Something humorous about the movie," Jed asked.

"No sir," Charlie said rather quickly.

"Should have built the dungeon," Jed said to himself.

"Does anyone know what the weather is supposed to be like," Toby asked as he walked to the window.

"Sunny and beautiful," Jed said.

"You sure about that, sir?"

"Toby are you calling me a liar?"

Toby turned to face the rest and gestured out the window. It was snowing. A lot.

"Uh oh," Josh said.

"What," Amy asked.

Josh just looked at her.

"Oh..." She paused. "Yeah, what he said. Uh oh."

**Sam's car, 1:30pm**

"This wasn't supposed to happen!" CJ said, looking out the window.

"CJ, I hate to tell you this, but I don't control the weather," Sam retorted.

"Guys, could we be going any slower," Ginger asked as she notice the car slowing down.

"Um, Sam, why are we going so slow," Donna asked.

"Well, the answer could be quite complicated." He said.

"We're stuck on a snow bank," CJ guessed.

"Or maybe not," he said as they came to a complete stop.

"Great! We're never going to make it," Ginger said from the back.

"Yes we are. You're just going to have to push the car so that we get past the snowbank."

"'You?' What happened to 'we,'" Donna asked.

"Someone has to actually steer the car out of it," Sam defended himself.

CJ turned to face Donna and Ginger. "Hey, we're just as strong as the next person. We can do this."

"That's what I like to hear," Sam said.

"Shut up," said the others.

"Yeah." He stopped talking.

"Well, let's get to work," CJ said, getting out of the car.

"Sam, maybe you should call and let them know where we are so they don't worry," Donna said.

"Good idea." He got his cell phone out and dialed Toby's cell phone number.

**Camp David**

"Toby Ziegler," Toby answered. "You're where?!...Sam, how did you manage to do that?...Yes, I know you don't control the weather, but how could you be so stupid! Didn't you read the weather report?...So she told you it would be a nice day outside. From what I remember, you made us walk in the rain...Fine. When are you going to be here?...Okay. Bye." He hung up and looked up at everyone, only to see all eyes on him. "Snow storm," he said simply. Everyone nodded.

**Sam's car, half an hour later**

"Okay, we'll get it this time," CJ said. "Put your weight into it."

"I can't. My shoulder really hurts," Donna said as she rubbed her shoulder.

"Okay." CJ walked to the driver's side and opened the door. "Think you and Donna can switch places? She hurt her shoulder."

"Yeah," he said as he got out. "Here you go," he said to Donna as he helped her in the car.

"Thanks, Sam." She got into the car.

"All right, let's do this," Sam said as he went to help Ginger and CJ.

**Camp David, 3:00pm**

"Did you know that Illiniois was the 18th state?" Jed said.

"Sir, no offense or anything, but how long are we going to do this," Toby asked.

"What was the 49th state to be named?" Jed continued.

"Hawaii," everyone said.

"Ah, you know your stuff. Let's go on to something harder."

The door then opened.

"Saved by the door," Jed said as everyone gave a sigh of relief.

Sam, CJ, Ginger, and Donna walked inside. "I never thought we'd make it here alive," CJ said.

"What on earth happened," Amy asked a very cold Sam.

"Car. Stuck in snow. Had to push. Two hours."

"Right."

"Well, now that everyone's here, we can watch the movie."

"Ah, not so fast, Josiah," Abbey said.

"What?"

"We are not going to watch 'Halloween.'"

"Why not? I think everyone likes a good horror movie every now and then."

"We're going to watch 'Miracle on 34th Street.'"

"No," everyone groaned.

"Cool," Sam said. He earned odd looks from everyone. "What? It was a tradition in my family to watch it on Thanksgiving every year."

Josh and Toby looked at each other and sort of smiled, each knowing they liked the movie.

"Fine," Jed said as he consented to the movie. Abbey smiled and put it in.

For the rest of the evening, everyone sat back and relaxed and enjoyed their little 'alternative Thanksgiving.'

The End
