A New Do

CJ sighed as she walked into Leo's office for the morning staff meeting. She plopped down on the sofa next to Toby and rested her chin her hand.

"You all right," Toby asked.

"I guess, I'm just bored," she replied as she sighed again.

Sam gave her a strange look. "Why are you bored? Or should I say how did you become bored? Especially here?"

She shrugged. "I'm not sure, but all I know is that I'm bored. I need to do something different. I was thinking about doing something with my hair." She looked at the two men.

"Okay, why?" Toby asked.

"Because I'm bored, Toby!" She shook her head. "Do you ever listen?"

"Yes."

"All right, shut up and let's get this meeting started," Leo said as he sat down.

"I have a meeting on the hill with Congressman Howard," Josh said. "He wants to talk about the welfare bill again."

Leo cocked his head at Josh. "You sound as if that's a boring thing to do." As he said that, CJ hit the sofa with her hand. "Are you okay," he asked her.

"Hmm? Yeah, I'm fine."

"Okay."

"Well, it is," he whined. "All he wants to do is talk about the same changes that have been made."

Leo shrugged. "Sorry kid. Maybe next time we'll let you do something else. Right now, you do the boring thing." CJ hit the sofa with her hand again. "What on earth are you doing?"

"Nothing," she replied. "Nothing at all! I can't stand this anymore!"

"CJ, you're not having a mid-life crisis, are you," Leo grimaced.

"No, I'm not, Leo. I'm just bored."

He nodded. "Okay, well go be bored somewhere else and let us work. And quit banging your hand on my sofa. You'll ruin it," he moaned.

She rolled her eyes. "Fine. Are we done yet?"

Leo looked at everyone. "Are we?"

"Yes," they all said in unison.

"Okay, get to work." Leo said as he got up and walked to the Oval Office.

CJ walked out of the office and to her own. She stopped when she saw Carol. "Carol, I'm bored," she whined.

"Why don't you try doing something different? You know try getting some new clothes or try a new thing with your hair--"

"That's it! I'll try something new with my hair!" She gave Carol a hug, which caused Carol to quickly back away.

"Okay..." She said to herself. "That was freaky."

GROCERY STORE

CJ walked down the shampoo and other hair accessory isle, trying to think of what she could do differently with her hair. Everything here seemed so boring. All the same kinds of things she would normally do with her hair.

"May I help you, ma'am," a store clerk asked.

"Yes, actually. I'm trying to find something different to do with my hair. I do the same thing everyday and everyday I look the same. I want my hair to be bouncier or something."

"Okay, well we just got this shampoo." He handed her a bottle. "It has been known to cause quite a scene, if you know what I mean." He winked at her.

She looked at the bottle. "Okay, I'll try it. Thanks." She walked to the counter to purchase the bottle.

"That will be $7.50, ma'am," the cashier said.

"$7.50?! It's only shampoo!" CJ said rather loudly.

He shrugged. "It's new. All the new things have higher prices."

"Yeah," she said as she fished for her wallet to get the money out. "Here."

"Thank you, and her is your change. Have a nice evening, ma'am."

"You too." She walked out of the store and to her car, excited about the new shampoo. She decided to wait until the mroning when she normally showered to try it.

THE NEXT MORNING

"Morning, CJ," Carol said as she looked up at CJ. She put a hand over her mouth. "Oh my G-d..."

"What's wrong, Carol? Don't you like my new hair-do?" CJ asked as she put a hand through her hair.

Carol shook her head and nodded at the same time. "It's very...uh...different." She stifled a laugh.

"Thanks," CJ said suspiciously. She walked into her office and looked over what she had to do for the briefing.

"CJ, you have staff," Carol said, trying not to laugh.

"Okay." CJ walked out of her office, but turned around and walked over to Carol. "Why are you laughing? What's so funny?"

"Um, nothing. I just think that you really shouldn't go into Leo's office..."

"Oh Carol, please. It's not like the guys are going to even notice anything."

"Okay..."

CJ smiled and walked towards Leo's office, wondering why Carol kept trying not to laugh. She shrugged it off and walked into the office.

"Morning C-Oh my G-d." Toby said as he tried his best not to crack up. "What did you do?"

"I'm glad you like it," CJ said as she smiled and sat down.

"I must admit, it's quite different."

"That's what I was aiming for."

"Hey guys-CJ, what the..." Sam said as he put a hand over his mouth, concealing his laughter.

She frowned at him. "You don't like the way my hair is done?"

"It's not that, it's just..." He couldn't finish since he kept trying not to laugh.

She shook her head. "Hey Josh," she said.

"Hey CJ-Holy cow! What the heck did you do to your hair?!"

"Ah, you noticed."

"It's kind of hard not to notice." He said as he sat down.

She shrugged him off. "Morning Leo," she said, hoping he wouldn't have the same reaction everyone else had.

"Hey CJ." He looked up at her. "What in G-d's name did you do to your hair?"

"All right, that's it," she said as she stood up. "Why is everyone acting so weird? What is wrong with the way I did my hair?"

"You mean you didn't see it," Sam asked.

"No, I didn't see it because I was running late this morning. So what the heck is everyone laughing about?!"

Leo looked at her. "Are you sure you want to know?"

"Yes, I'm sure."

"Okay, go into the Roosevelt Room. There are mirrors in there."

She glared at the four men and walked out of the room.

"Leo, do you think--"

"Shh!" He said to Sam. "5, 4, 3, 2, 1..."

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" Came a yell from the Roosevelt Room. CJ ran back to Leo's office. "What in the name of--"

"Exactly," Toby said calmly.

"What is going on in here," the President asked as he walked into the room.

Everyone stood. "Good morning sir," they said.

He looked at everyone suspiciously, but stopped when he got to CJ. "Um, CJ, you do know that your hair is blue, right?"

"Yes, I saw, sir."

"Okay just making sure. Well, I'm going to go back to work now, and so should all of you." He walked out of the office.

"Leo, I can't give a briefing looking like this!" CJ complained.

"Sorry," he said. "You're going to have to. Your deputy called in sick."

"Ugh!" She walked out of the office and back to hers to gather her things.

PRESS ROOM

"CJ!"

"Yes, Steve?"

"Why is your hair...blue?" He asked.

"Well, I..." She paused. "I wanted to try something different. Okay, that's all. More at 4:00 today." She walked out of the room and slammed the door behind her.

"You all right, boss?"

"I'm so blue!" CJ whined as she walked to her office, trying to shake off the humiliation that she knew wouldn't end. "I'm so, so blue!"
